The Image of Jan Hus in the Early Modern Czech Literature

The work The Image of Jan Hus in the Early Modern Czech Literature tries to map different ways of description of this Czech preacher in selected literary texts from 15th to 18th century, to capture the changes which his image underwent. The chosen authors come from different countries and use different languages, represent different environments, social classes and opinion groups, they also have different education and religion. Individual literary works were assessedby means of comparing the key episodes that are either repeated in the texts, or the author intentionally did not use them. To understand the image of Jan Hus as a whole, also contemporary iconography was taken into account , which in some cases has been taken from other literary texts than those which were compared, so that the image of Hus whereas complete as possible. The comparison of the texts and iconography showed, how accurate the observation of the described scheme was and how the image of Jan Hus was gradually changing. The combination of written and iconographic material from specific time intervals allowed us to observe the gradual change of conceptions of the personality of Jan Hus and events connected with him, because the authors represent the opinion of their ethnic group and time. František Bílek´s work in České Budějovice - art historical characteristics

This bachelor thesis will focus on the work of the sculptor František Bílek (1872-1941) in České Budějovice. Bílek created two monumental sculptural works right in the city - a stone monument to the writer Otakar Mokrý (1919) in today's Na Sadech park and several pieces of sculpture decoration in the interior of the Husův sbor church (1924) on today's Palacký square. Preparatory drawings and sculptures for both works have been preserved in the collections of Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká. The aim of the thesis will be primarily a thorough iconographic analysis of Bílek's monumental realizations and also their art-historical analysis, while the author will use the just-mentioned related works in AJG. The author will also focus on the ordering context of the creation of the monument and the church decoration, or the position of both works in Bílek's related work. If it is possible and appropriate, the author will include references to other works in the AJG, which illustrate the iconographic and material breadth of Bílek's work.

The character of Master Jan Hus is inherently connected to the history of our country. Not only he influenced many people during his life, his followers have honoured his legacy after his death. Most remarkable is his effort to reform the Christian Church and to correct the priests, who have deflected from Christ. The purpose of this work is to document the life and work of Jan Hus. The most important part is the chapter about Česká nedělní postila, which was written at Kozí castle. Specifically finding the period actualisations and their interpretation. Postila is the most important work written by Hus and its content is very specific and it differs from his previous works.
Interpretation of Freedom in the Work of Jan Hus and his Sources at St. Augustinus

The paper focus on Jan Hus and T.G.Masaryk and their contribution to the Czech philosophy. The emphasis is given mainly to the parts of their lives and work which include timeless moral message. The aim of the paper is not to offer detailed analysis of the philosophical texts but rather to track fundamental moral accents they include and their impact on Czech philosophical landscape. Brief overview Hus' and Masaryk's important life events and decisions is used to describe a practical dimension of their philosophy. The reflection of the Hus' and Masaryk's works follows approach and intepretation of Erazim Kohák's books. With their help the paper tries to indentify meaning of Czechness as it was defined and shaped by Masaryk and Hus.

The introductory chapters describe the reasons for the economic, social and political crisis, resulting in the unrest in Europe in the early 15th century and is shown activity Hus's predecessors Konrad Walhauser, John Milíč of Kromeriz, Matthew of Janov, Vojtech Raňkův from Ježov, Thomas Štítný of Štítné. The diploma thesis is also engaged in the work of John Wycliffe, who influenced the thinking of scholars throughout Europe, including Bohemia, where from his thoughts and opinions drew Jan Hus. The core diploma thesis is to analyze the life and the work of Jan Hus, its importance for the development of Czech history. Hus, influenced by his predecessors, became a leading critic of the Church and its influence goes beyond the 15th century. The diploma thesis shows the influence Hus's thoughts and actions in education and elementary education in the 15th and 16 century. Hus influenced the development of the Czech language and spelling. The ideas of Jan Hus had affected the brotherly unity, that followed the Hussite movement intellectually and spiritual legacy of Jan Hus thanks to John Blahoslav and John Amos Comenius. The diploma thesis deals with the reflection of Master Jan Hus and his work with prominent personalities such as František Martin Pelcl, Josef Dobrovský, Karel Havlicek Borovsky,...
